THE SAN ANTONIO HIGHLAND DANCERS have been dancing at area cultural events since 1998 and are a SA Highland Games favorite, having performed in every SA Highland Games and Celtic Music Festival. With annual membership to the San Antonio Scottish Society, classes are offered to all members and their children and grandchildren free of charge.
The highland dancers have been led by Mary Beth Klein since 2014, following instructor, Annette Venegas’ relocation. The group’s primary purpose is to promote the traditional dances of Scotland. They share this heritage and cultural form of dance by performing and competing throughout the year. Highland Dance combines culture, music, heritage, a physical workout, and a friendly social setting all in one. Highland dancing, which was originally performed by men only, is now seen at most modern day Highland Games Events, performed by both male and female dancers. It is a highly technical dance form which requires a great deal of practice and training to perfect. Highland Dance is recognized as a sport by the Sport Council of Scotland.
